DATCU and Denton ISD

A Better Community Partnership

Debt Consolidation Solutions

As a credit union originally created by and for educators, we remain committed to building a stronger community through education.  Empowering our local school districts to develop tomorrow’s leaders by providing resources so teachers and students can thrive is an essential part of our mission. Together, with Denton ISD, we aim to strengthen North Texas one student and one teacher at a time.

The Partnership

Denton ISD and DATCU first collaborated in 2019 when Denton ISD needed new scoreboards and facility improvements. To help the District focus its resources on the classroom, DATCU provided a ten-year, $1M agreement to purchase the scoreboards and other needs with one caveat.  The income generated by selling advertising space on the digital scoreboards should be used to fund scholarships and teacher grants through the Denton Public School Foundation and any audio/visual production needs must be done by students so that they gain real-world experience before graduating.

The partnership began as a way to leverage strengths of both Denton ISD and DATCU to benefit the entire community.

It continued in 2023 with an extension of the original agreement although this time, the contract grew to $1.5M over ten additional years.  Funding for the extension was determined by DATCU’s ongoing annual commitment to several key programs, areas, and events.  While part of the contract helps maintain District equipment such as band trailers, the lion’s share sponsors district-wide projects such as the Adopt-A-School program, service awards, new hire orientations, and urgent needs identified by the Superintendent or Board of Trustees.

The Benefits

Clearly defined expectations only make partnerships better.  While the contract is signed and agreed upon, there is a rippling effect that changes how we communicate and work together.  This page is designed to help Denton ISD teachers and administrators navigate the partnership while also providing key information for other affiliated organizations such as PTA and booster clubs.
