[music] [music] All right. Hey everybody. Uh, thanks for joining us again on another episode of Checking In, a podcast about life experiences with money. Uh, we like to talk about the good stuff, the bad stuff, all of that fun stuff, the emotions that are tied with, uh, what we call income and expenses. So income I always associate with good feelings about money, you know, the the the positives of like that first paycheck, right? Uh how how independent and autonomous you felt. Um all of that fun stuff. And then as we we grow into it, we start realizing ah we got to adult, right? We got spend money, right? And that's the in expense segment that we'll get into. And then eventually we'll we'll wrap up at the end with uh our no-brainer segment, which is just pop culture questions that you guys don't know about. So it'll it'll be a fun time. Uh just a a good dialogue. Glad everybody could join us. Uh but we will dive right in there. So we were talking earlier a little bit about uh income and the like I said the positive feelings about money and we tal we were talking about first paychecks. That's that's the question we always start with. You guys remember your first paycheck? I remember my first paycheck or roughly the time of it. Um I worked a normal job um in high school. Uh my father owned a sandwich shop, Joey O's. It's a local sandwich shop here in Corinth. Um but I worked there for four or five years with my brother. Um and I do remember that that first paycheck feeling of of working all week for for a paycheck and and being able to go and to the mall or do whatever I wanted. So yeah, exciting. It did feel good. It did feel good. What'd you spend it on? I think I probably went to the mall and and bought some clothes and and probably some fast food at the time. So nice. That's the best way, right? That's not the old saying. Best way to a man's heart is through his stomach. I It sounds about right to me. Yeah. You know, I just realized I probably should have started with intros, huh? Oh, yeah. I guess they wouldn't even introduce ourselves. We have the privilege today of being with uh two of our uh brand ambassadors, right? Our our very special student athletes here. We got Grayson Ober, right? So, that's a little context to the to the story, right? That owed owed owned Joey Oo, right? Yes, sir. Yeah. Absolutely. That's right. So, you had a kind of a built-in I did. I had a I had a built-in job, man. I knew where I was going to work when I when I turned 16. Yes. Nice. That's awesome. And then we have Cameron Jenkins, right? How y'all doing? The the Cameron Jenkins. I'm not going to say where you're from because it was my rival in high school. Louisville Fighting Farmers, in case y'all didn't know. Go. Marcus Marauders right here. Right here. Let's Let's keep it real. So, um Well, that's interesting. So, we got a a food service, right? Um sandwich shop. How about you? You remember your first paycheck? Oh, I have to say. Or your first job? work. Yeah. So, my first really paycheck, I had to say probably the stipen. Yeah. My freshman year in college. Yeah. That that's a that's a good one to remember though. How'd you feel when you get it when you got it? I don't know. I was excited cuz you feel me? I ain't never seen that much money just hit my account at one time. So, yeah, that was a good feeling. I didn't know what to do with it at first. Yeah. A little bit of independence there. Yeah. Did you feel any sort of like, wait, this is a this is a good chunk of change, but I still got to be smart with it, right? Did you feel any of that? Yeah, cuz I still had to pay rent. So, yeah, I know I couldn't just blow it all in one day. Yeah. Yeah. Unfortunately, you see a lot of athletes kind of get themselves in troubles when they do that, right? Feel good. So, glad glad you didn't fall into that trap. [laughter] Okay. Nice. Um, well, kind of going along the lines with with income, one question I'm I'm interested in asking you guys is how do you handle the money? Um, and and I don't mean like what do you spend it on, although we'll get to that. I'm I'm interested in that generational question of like digital. You guys ever written a check? Do you carry cash? Anything like that? You know, honestly, I'm I'm more of a cash guy, which is I feel like uncommon in this day and age. My friends and family kind of make fun of me for it, but I've always been kind of a cash a carrying cash on me guy. Um, as I I still of course carry a lot of digital currency as well in whatever form or fashion that comes in. But cash is easy for me. I mean, it's just I mean, you can use it anywhere. Like, somebody not everybody has, you know, like the tap thing you can just tap it on. Like, I've always thought if you know, if I could pull out a lot of cash, that would be that would be easier and can fit any any type of circumstance. So, I've always been a big believer in cash. And I think that cash can help you out in times of need if if maybe, you know, you can't just double click your power button and Yeah. and buy something that way. So, are you are you a doomsday prepper? Doomsday prepper. Like, is that does that saying like for the worst day in the world type of [laughter] guy? I I'm I'm prepared. I have the cash. I guess I'm prepared if if it did come to that. I'm glad you're prepped. I'm glad you're ready. Uh no, I'm just making a joke. You [laughter] know, you got to carry cash just in case the worst thing ever happens. The worst thing in the world happens, I'm ready for it with the cash. You guys ever watch uh Most Expensiveist? Most Expensiveist? No. No. Oh, man. It's a great show. I guess I guess I have seen this. I I I've seen the YouTube. Is it Is this kind of like the YouTube show where they It's It's on a couple channels, but it's two chains. He goes around and finds like the most expensive things in the world. But the last episode I saw was about doomsday prepping and they had one bag um giant bag. It was like 10,000 and it had all sorts of survival gear in it. But one of the things they had in it was gold. Just in case they don't accept cash, they don't accept Apple Pay. They don't accept it. You still got gold. Very last resource. Yeah, absolutely. That's right. So that that's kind of the vibe I was getting there with you're like, "Hey, cash is king." Hey, um let me ask you this. What's easier to spend, cash or swipe the card? Oh, that's a great question. I feel like I feel like for me with digital currency and what we're kind of talking about, I think it's easier just to kind of I want to say tap the card even even as much as swipe the card. Um, you know, it's everybody has a phone and it's right there on your phone at any moment. Um, I think actually pulling the cash out of my wallet, seeing my my hundred break into 20s or if I'm buying something too big, break into ones, that hurts a little worse than just double clicking my power button and and tapping it and never never seeing that money break or or leave. So yeah, I would say that that card is that this way of digital currency, card is probably easier to spend for me. Yeah, that's where I was going. I swipe and forget it, right? Yeah, it's it's it's hard. I mean, pull out cash. It hurts. It does hurt. It does hurt a little worse. So So yeah. How about you? Cash or card? You a digital wallet guy or you go with cash? Wallet. I mean, I used to I carry cash, but it got to a point when I started to get my Apple Pay. So it's like I don't even need cash on me for real. Go to the gas station, click go to the mall, I double click. So like right now I'm just digital [snorts] right now. You know where else you can go without cash? Thank you Stadium here. Yeah. Yeah, it's cashless now. Well, at least I got the email that it's most of the concessions is uh cashless now. So it makes it a lot easier. So yeah, I'm with you guys there. Absolutely. I want to get my popcorn at the game in a couple weeks. I'll pull out the phone, not the cash. It's coming up. Nice. Um, well, thinking about the good side of money, like the positive feelings, what are some of the things? What What are some of your splurges you don't mind spending money on, but you're like, "Hey, I need this to like survive, right?" Need it to survive or splurges? Need it for my mental health. Need it for my mental health. My mental health. Yeah. Camp needs those shoes over there on his feet for for his mental health. Oh, you a shoe guy? Yeah, I'm a shoe guy. Yeah. See if we can see him on the teeth. What's What's What's your cont What's that say over there on the shoe? right there. Louis. [laughter] Oh, little LV on LV on the feet. Wow, you're making me feel bad. I just got Jordans on, man. It's still nice, though. I like I got Cop Jordan, too. Yeah, I love Jordans. I ain't going to lie. That's I'll probably wear those. Yeah. Nine times like seven days out the week, I'm most likely wearing like Jordans six days. That's your go-to? Yeah. What's your favorite pair? My right now my my fours. I love Jordan fours. Yeah. Yeah. Those are pretty sweet. Yeah. So, is that something you're like, "Hey, man. I know I don't need to spend a couple hundred bucks on these shoes, but I really want to." Yeah. Some Yeah. Because especially like when a new pair going to drop, I look, I'm like, I don't need it right now, but I want it. And then I just got to turn my phone off so I won't buy it. So, you won't get tempted. Is that your trick for like talking yourself off the ledge or buying something you don't think you can afford? Uhhuh. I just got to turn my phone off or like cuz it it usually has the release date and then I can't if I see the release date, I'm going to remember it. So I can't see the release date or I'm I'm end up buying them. Yeah. You're going to get them. Yeah. That's really healthy, man. That's really smart to be like, I know my temptations. I'm just going to put them over there in the corner and deal with it when I can deal with it. So what do you do to save up to get those shoes? is like if you're like, "Okay, I can't afford those now, but I bet you I can in a couple weeks or a couple months if I x like what are your tricks for for saving up for it?" Do you know? Cuz well, right now, like when when we get our n check most of I'm pretty sure most of the time it goes like my check I got to set a war so it goes it goes straight to my LLC. So I don't see it. Okay. So I don't see it at all. Nice. So mainly I just be like maybe off my stipen. So, I I look depending how much I got in there in my uh checking account. If it's not, then I ain't going to get it. I'm just sticking to what I need on a day-to-day basis. So, you just hit like a depth that I didn't know we were going to go to, but you just said so many acronyms that we need to unpack there here in a second. I'm going to go over here first on splurges, but yeah, NIL, LLC, all of that fun stuff. It sounds like you've got some really unique ways to handle your income, which I think I want to investigate. So, hold on one second. We'll get that. Think about it. I'm coming over to you to splurges, man. What do you What do you uh don't You don't mind spending your money on? I don't mind spending my money on travel. Travel. Okay. I really like like I I will buy myself nice things. I I do like to have nice things, but I would much rather spend my money on some sort of experience than um I guess What's the what's the word I'm looking for? Like a a materials a materialistic a material a material item. Um like I I I like to to to travel to different states. I'm trying to make it to all the states. So nice if I can save up some money from a check and and you know take a trip when we have when we have a little break from football. That's what I like to to spend some money on. Nice. Where's your favorite place to go? My just everywhere. My favorite place to go Yeah. I don't I don't know if I have a an exact favorite place. I some somewhere new. How about that? Somewhere somewhere new. That that's I think that's the goal with every every every time I take a vacation. I'd like to go somewhere that I haven't been before. Um so wherever that that may lead me next is is what I'm excited for. Kind of the adventure adventure adventure of seeing new places for sure. Nice. Get out there and go. So, but you said you don't mind spending money on travel. So, we talking like first class Ritz Carlton or are we just talking about making the making it go as far as you can go? You know, honestly, I I'll be honest. I think it's more so of of making it I'd rather I'd rather three vacations. Gotcha. Um, you know, kind of find the cheapest hotel with your buddies. You know, we can still have some fun and go out while we're there and and things of that nature. Um, but I would rather, you know, split it up on three three trips to three new places instead of going first class, you know, best hotel at at one place. So, I would say that's my take on that. Nice. I like that. That's really mature. Yeah. Um, more experiences for the value% just going on. You can I've learned in my my kind of travel adventures that you can you can make some stuff work for a little bit less money. You know, at at Dartmouth I I was at Dartmouth before I got here. I guess we didn't talk about that, but we didn't have any NIO. So, me and my buddies up there were kind of trying to make it work on on just a little bit of chunk of change. Um, and so that kind of taught us that you can you can split it up a little bit more. For sure. Yeah. Oh, no. I totally get that. Um, when I was playing baseball, we would be like, "Hey, we get a per DM whatever for food." Yeah. Couple buddies and I would be like, "Let's get a pizza. It's like 10 bucks and then we can pocket the rest of our thought." Yeah. Nice ways to do it. Yes, sir. Can I also tell another story that's not doesn't put me in the best light? Absolutely. Terms of saving money. So, my senior year in college, uh, some buddies and I wanted to go to Vegas. Okay. And so, we ended up getting a threebedroom suite at a terrible, terrible hotel. Okay. But we didn't care because we just wanted to go. It cost us each like 12 bucks to stay there for [laughter] like four days. It was awesome. That's awesome. It was a great trip. Those are the memories that count though. Yeah. Yeah. You know, kind of put my health at risk. So maybe I would have spent like 20 bucks a night instead of 12. I don't know. You know, that's good stuff. But but that's really cool. So So you guys both brought up some interesting points then and we we'll talk about you too about how NIL has kind of changed your perspective on college uh college athletics because you've had it and you haven't had it. You can see the difference, right? For sure. I think that's a really good good place to take the conversation. But but you, my man, you brought up those acronyms. You've got an LLC. Talk to me about this. What's this all about? I mean, it's really when I had first I got to Baylor and then like I was getting Yeah. sick of Bears. So I was getting a little bit more like I was getting money that like I never seen or I've never seen this much in my life. So I don't know like how to handle all this money coming in. So So me and my mom thought it was best like I get like I get a financial advisor. So I got a financial advisor. Okay. So we set that up and got a LLC and then I have a retirement a retirement account also. There you go. Yeah. And then I be investing a little bit on the side too. I again I can't tell you how smart that is, man. the the best thing you can do for your retirement is start now, you know, start early and and you've started uh uh very early, which is really impressive. So, the LLC then your your money go kind of goes in there and kind of protects you from so is it there's some tax advantages or is it just a holding place for it's really like all the above? Okay. So, like I have that going there and then also like I have a monthly budget. Okay. So they get sent to my account every month. Nice. So yeah. So that's where you get your Jordans and the monthly budget comes in. Nice, man. That is so incredibly smart, man. It makes me proud to be sitting next to you. You got all that figured out. That's that's really sweet. N sometimes I'm still I still be having my flaws. Like I have my bad days where I spend a lot that I don't need to. It happens to the best of us, man. Yeah, we all do it. Um, we could talk about that a little bit later, but how you recover from it. Um, have you ever heard, and I said this in another podcast with with student athletes, have you ever heard of Ryan Broyals? He was a receiver at OU. Oh, somebody just said that name. I think he had a like maybe a five, six year career at the Detroit Lions. Okay. But he developed this whole philosophy of like, I'm only going to pay myself a salary from my NFL paycheck and save the rest. Yeah. Uh, and after his career, man, he's now he's a really successful entrepreneur in Oklahoma. Uh, he's got tons of investments all because he was smart with the money that came in, stayed somewhere, and he only spent a little bit of it. So, sounds like you're on that path. Yes, sir. Oh, that's really cool, man. Uh, that's awesome. Gives me hope for the for the future. Youth. Yeah. We need it. The youth. I know. For sure. I know. Um, I'm not going to make any youth jokes because it's going to come back to me as old age jokes. [laughter] I'll keep my mouth shut there. U the gray hair is a little misleading though. I'm not quite that old. I used to have gray hair. So, um let's go back to you, Grayson. Um you were talking about how you didn't have it and now you do. How has that changed your perspective on sports? Is is it still like, hey, I'm a gamer. I'm going to practice just as hard with or without the NIL. Or is there like, hey, I got to start building my brand. I got to start, you know, getting my image out there. You know, it's a mixture of both. I would say it it for sure has not changed my practice habits or habits in terms of performance or showing up um at all. But it definitely makes you want to be more aware, I would say, of building your brand. Um being able to be blessed with doing things such as this right here and and talking to you guys and being able to partner with Daku, that's been great. Um just because it's a great opportunity. It's it's it's great to um be able to learn and and you know, like we're talking about take in money. Okay, how am I going to be responsible with this money? So, it's great for that. But, I would say as far as actual football goes, my mind is is still focused on the the main, you know, I try to keep the main thing the main thing, which for me is football, not money. Um, so I I try to keep that at the the center of my mind um more times than not and and and keep money kind of just an extra bonus that that we're blessed to be able to have the opportunity to get at this stage of our career. Nice. Yeah, I like that. The main thing for sure, right, you guys are still, you know, uh, top-notch, you know, elite athletes that are gonna going to push as hard as you can on the field regardless of what's in your your bank account. Absolutely. It's still it's still nice to have. Yeah, for sure. Yeah, it's it's definitely nice to have, but but like I said, keeping the main thing the main thing is important to me. Yeah, that's awesome, man. For sure. It's really good to hear. So, well, I think that's a nice segue over to our kind of segment that we call expenses. Uh, which is kind of those ugh, you know, feelings about money, the stressful stuff. [snorts] Um, what do you guys not like to spend money on? What What What's something that you're like, "Ah, geez, I just got to do this." Gas. Gas. I hate spending money on gas. Yeah. But I feel like I do it every week. Yeah. Um, what about you, Cam? Car note. Care. Car note. Yeah. But I know a pretty good place where you can get a decent car note. Yeah. There you go. [laughter] There you go. Nice. It was a little plug. You know, it's crazy. I'm I'm in a I'm in a market for a new car. I'm in the market for a new car. Got a whole lending department upstairs you can talk to. Yeah. I need to come back. [laughter] Sign them up. Sign them up. You heard that? Oh, it dies. So that's what you don't like spending money on as a car. Think it's just a necessary evil. Yes. Yeah. That like you said, gas. I love food. So I I can spend whatever on food. Yeah. You don't mind that? Not at all. Yeah. Just the car stuff. Car stuff. You're an athlete. You could run everywhere, right? No, I can't run the um I've seen this guy do summer conditioning before. [laughter] Ouch. You're gonna let that I might have to get out of the way here. Let you guys go at it here. U Yeah. You don't want to mess up those those Louis Vuitton, man. Don't Don't run in that. I can't. So then are you like a I got to have a nice car or you just like a hey, I just need something to get me from point A to point B right now. I just need something point A to point B. Yeah. Yeah. Interesting. I can't I don't know if I can if I want the car I had again. I do, but I can't I can't go get it again right now. Yeah. Yeah. You're being smart about it. I think that's really really smart. Um that's a that's a trap that a lot of people can fall into, right? Get a car that they don't really need. They just like it and they want it. So, sure. Present company excluded. That's never happened to me. I've never fallen into that. Yeah, I have. Never mind. I'll I'll forget that. Uh, so, so it was both car things. Uh, gas and the actual car is what you guys don't like to spend money on. Yeah. I don't I don't like to buy gas. Gas is expensive. Yeah. It's crazy expensive. Huh. So then, how do you like um create a budget or create a system? You talked about a budget earlier. Create a system where you're like, "Hey, I've got some of it going towards the stuff I don't really want to spend money on, but I have to. Gas, car, etc., But I have a little contingency over here in case there's an accident or something else, you know, happens that I need to get. And there's a little section over here for me, right, for my shoes, for for my travel. So, you guys have a system built for that? I, you know, honestly, this might be more frowned upon in this day and age, but I'm a more old school um when it comes to kind of budgeting and and looking at my finance. I I like to write it out like in a notebook. I journal a lot, so I just have it as a part of my journal, just if I need to to update that part of what I what I have going on in my journal. Um, I'll just kind of break up my budget in that way, just physically handwriting it out, which is is super old school at this point with all the rocket money and whatever else you see on your Instagram reels. But, um, yeah, I just like to write it out. Yeah. No, that's that's fair. I mean, for me, if if I see something Yeah, absolutely. You know, it kind of sticks in the brain. So, writing it out is is nice. Let me ask you this. Have you ever written a check? Oh, this is embarrassing to say. My parents probably be disappointed if I answered no to this, but I believe the answer is I think I've received a check, but I actually I I I'm sure I've written a check at some point in my life. I I don't want to say no to that question and then and be seen on the internet saying I've never written a check at at 22 years old, but it it's never been a huge part of my my upbringing. I we were never, you know, by the time I was working, it was it was all pretty much digital at that point. Like I I wasn't getting paid by check. It was it was direct deposit at that time. Yeah. Um, so I I I never really had a I never really had a reason to write a check um to be honest with you. So that my take Yeah. No, 100%. I think that's that's totally fair because I mean I I used to write checks all the time. I don't anymore. There's no need to. Yeah. And it and it's funny too, even if you receive because I can remember times I've received a check. I can't remember times I've written a check. But even in receiving a check, you just take a picture of the check with your phone and it instantly goes and turns into turns into digital currency. So it all ends up being the same thing. Yeah, at the end of the day anyway. Remote deposit. That's what we call it. Remote deposit. Yeah. Yeah. You know where you can do remote deposit. That coupe. There we go. Nice. Nice. Another easy plug. I know. You guys are You guys are just walking into Perfect. Uh you guys are doing awesome. Um yeah, I I even there was uh there's something coming up. Uh I think it's my daughter's booster club or something like that. They're like, "Hey, come with a check." And I'm like, I I physically don't own anymore. Yeah. I don't I don't do that. I'm like, "Do you do Vinmo as well? Like, how can I how can I get this over to you?" Exactly. Right. I'm not going to write a check. So, what about you, man? You got a system. You've got a pretty elaborate system. Uh who who taught you how to do that? Is it your mom? What? Sometimes do what? All the budgeting and the like LLC and all that stuff. So, actually like we all meet like once a month. I try to at least once a month on Zoom and then like we go over like the budget. So in case if I need to go up or lower it. So like like we was talking about gas, money, car. So like all that was in my budget. Gotcha. So like and it's all on like we did it on Google Sheets. So all so I can't write that down because I'm end up losing it. So I have to put that on my phone so I can just go look at it and see. Gotcha. Nice. So we got old school. We got a little bit of sophistication over here. Uh nice. You meet once a month and kind of go over it. make sure you're staying on track. Sweet, man. That's really smart. That's really smart. I'm feeling really old, man. I was not doing this stuff when you when I was your your ages. So, well played, guys. Well played. Um, talked about kind of what you don't like to spend money on, what you do like to spend money on. What about those situations where you're like, um, man, I've I've got to do this. Like let's say your air conditioning your car goes off or you need new tires or something like that and you're like I don't quite have the cash to pull this off. Do you guys have a like emergency? Yeah. Like a contingency plan type of deal. I kind of I mean that's what I keep for myself. That's what I would call it. You know a a rainy day. It's that cash in your wallet. Yeah. Yeah. Exactly right. you know, I mean, it's I mean, transparently for me, if it's not just cash, like a thousand bucks in just a drawer or something like that, you know, just like I'm going to forget about it. I'm going to put it aside, but if a rainy day does come, I know that I can fall back on that and not be stressed out. And me I me personally, I think it's super important that everybody does have that, you know, for that rainy day. Sure. Just as a as a stress. I mean, because I know if if my my uh car tire did pop on the way home today, I wouldn't be like freaking out. Okay, I need to go search for cash because I planned in advance for for that rainy day to come. So, that's that's my my take on it is just kind of, you know, whatever that whatever that is for for for me or for you or for Cam 1,000 bucks, 2,000 bucks, 10,000 bucks, you know, it kind of depends on your lifestyle, but just just having that backup plan um in case that that day does come. For sure. It's that doomsday prepping. Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah, dude. You're a smart man. You're [laughter] a smart man. Oh, that's funny. Um, so do you have a roommate? I do not. Okay, good. I was going to say, hope he's not watching this. [laughter] You're going to come home and your sock drawers for sure. I know. I know. My drawers can be empty. [laughter] Oh, I'm just kidding. Hopefully. Just kidding. For real. So, what about you, man? How do you How do you kind of plan for those emergencies? I have a have a shoe box. A shoe box. Oh, you have a roommate? No. No. Okay, good. My last roommate was my brother, so had to separate. You feel me? [laughter] I couldn't I don't know if I I couldn't do that anymore. I lived long enough. Nice. Oh, that's or I just like really at this what I used my credit card for really rainy days. Yeah, absolutely. That was kind of going to be my next question. U was like how do you guys feel about debt? I mean, there's so many myths and so many like things about debt. It's good. It's bad. You can use it wisely. You can debt guy. You can Yeah, there's nothing good about debt. I'm not a big debt guy. I Well, you can use it in different ways. Yeah. Let's define debt. I mean, like getting a car loan is technically debt, right? Right. Technically, you know, mortgages, you know, all that stuff. Absolutely. One thing I've actually learned from our from our lending department, and they're probably going to tell me I'm wrong after I say this. I've said it multiple times like uh in your credit score, you know, a lot of times they'll look at how you use debt. So like if you're let's just make up a number. If you're if your credit card limit is 10 grand and you've got three grand on it and you're paying it off, you know, on a regular basis, like they're like, "Ah, this is a really responsible person. They can handle debt." Yeah. Right. So it actually helps your credit score a little bit to have a little bit of debt there. Just depends. I mean, it really just depends on what the debt is going towards. I mean I I think I mean like we want to talk about a car note like for Cam like I when you bring up that I mean I think what comes to mind for me is kind of like time value of money like that's like like the thought they would come to mind just okay if if I could if I could buy it in cash right now like I have the I have the cash to buy it I could go buy it with 50 grand or I could take that cash and go and invest in a bunch of stocks. Sure. Right. So, could I make more money back on that investment if I took it in the stocks or or burn it with the car? And it if it's the stocks, then okay, I could take some debt on. Technically, you're taking debt on, but you're really not because you're that you're you're outweighing it with your investment. So, it just depends on I mean, it depends on a lot of market factors and where things are at, but if it's the right time to buy something with cash or to take on that debt is is what I would have to look at with debt. But, in an all in all encompassing thing, I do not like debt. I would rather just buy something in cash and then just be like, "Okay, next thing." And and save back up that cash again. But that's I think a more personal personal preference. Some people look at it differently. 100%. Yeah. No, I'm right there with you. I think that's a really smart way of of doing things and looking at things. Let me ask you this. Let's say um I don't know, uh there's something you want I can't think of anything that a PlayStation, I don't know, five, six hundred bucks. Yeah. Uh, and you walk into Best Buy and they're like, "Hey, we got this 0% interest for 12 months promo." Okay. Uh, and you'll get, you know, a thousand points towards a $100 gift certificate next time you come into Best Buy. What are you throwing in some incentives into it as well? Exactly. Are you like, "Nope, I'm out. Here's my cash. Give me the thing. I'm gone. I'm I'm out. I'm I'm giving them the cash and I'm out." That this That's a That's a good question, though. I mean, that's that's what we're talking about. I would rather just, you know, wipe it off the slate, wipe it off the mind. Okay, I got the PlayStation. Let's not start adding interest where, you know, my car breaks down and now I don't have the cash to pay the interest and now I'm in more debt. Like, I don't I don't like the whole interest talk. Like, when we start talking about having to having to pay more and more money than something's worth, I would rather just just clean the slate with the cash probably. I got one for you. Okay. Oh, no. Whoops. There goes my water bottle. Okay. I got one for you. But if interest rates are good, I mean, it could be good. But we're talking I mean, this is a specific example we're talking about. Yeah. I'm gonna get you on this. Okay. This is going to be good. So, let's say you're like, "Man, I can't wait to go to Hawaii next year." Okay, I want to go to Hawaii. And a certain airlines is like, "Hey, I got a credit for you. If you open it up, a credit card for you. If you open it up today, you'll get 10,000 miles towards, you know, whatever trip you want to take, and if you, you know, put your bills on there and pay it off every month, so you don't technically have debt. You're going to earn miles towards your trip to Hawaii." Am I convincing you yet? You're convincing me more with the travel talk. You know, they almost every time I sit down in my seat on a plane, they almost get me with the credit card. They almost get me with the credit card, but I'm able to to turn up the headphones and forget about it. But there you go. You know, it it it's definitely definitely a good question with the the interest rates. Yeah. Yeah. No, it's not it's not I'm I'm I'm 100% tracking with you is like it's not terrible to have it, but you need to pay it off, right? Don't let it snowball. Don't let it The snowballing effect is is where you get in trouble. But I it depends on how much you really want the thing too. Like you bring up travel like we talked about at the beginning. I like to travel so I might be more incentivized to to you know take on more of a payment plan with something like that as opposed to a PlayStation that I could care about less. So I guess it kind of just depends. Yeah, that's interesting. All right, Ritz Carlton, you got a you got a prospect here. [laughter] Absolutely. Somebody to market to you. This guy's gonna go for it if you give him a free couple nights at the Ritz. I might. I just might. Yeah, that's funny. How about you, man? How you feel about all that situation? Debt, stuff like that, credit cards. I don't like it. Yeah, stay away from it. You're a cash guy. Yeah, I like Well, but the PlayStation. Yeah, I'm for sure paying it here. I'm done. Yeah. So, I can go play my game. Yeah. Incentive doesn't work on you. I I low key I fell for I almost fell for it one time. I was at Best Buy. I think I was getting a TV. I don't remember. I was getting some I was getting something from there and it was ask me to buy a Best Buy card and then you can use it. I'm like and give you if somebody give me like like 50 like like 50% off or something like that. I'm like I'm sitting there thinking it I started doing the paperwork too like get my name like account and I start thinking I'm like I don't need it. I'm just gonna pay for it. I'm just gonna go home and then live the fight another day. Let's go hang out the TV wake up before because then I'll forget that I even did that. Yeah. Yeah. And then if you don't pay it off and you get hit with some some fees and penalties and interest and all that stuff. So you had the little cash angel on your shoulder kind of whispering to you and saying don't go for it. Yes. I'll I'll embarrassingly admit I've I I believe I've signed up for a credit card at Academy before unknowingly because they were giving me a discount and I had made it about halfway through the application and realized, wait a minute, this something's a little fishy here. You're asking for my I was getting 50% off 30 seconds ago and now you're asking for my social security number. Like something seems a little bit off here or something. But yeah. Um yeah, absolutely. Have you ever thought about going into marketing? Marketing? Yeah. Yeah. Uh I'm I mean for me marketing is an interesting field to be in right [laughter] now. Hey, be careful man. Be careful. You know my title is right. It it's an interesting field to be in right now. Um I think you can things like this make it make marketing better and like we were talking about before before we got rolling. But there's a there's a lot going on with marketing right now. Like it makes it a complicated field to be in. 100%. Yeah. No, I'm like I said, I'm I'm right there with you. like uh there are there are good uses of marketing and then there are ways that are like wait a second should I just get conned into something. Uh so we definitely stay away from that for sure. We like the authentic transparent stuff. Transparency. Yeah, it's key. Exactly. Exactly. Okay. Well, um let me give you a scenario then. Let me give you a scenar that's not what I'm doing here. But it was something that happened in my life uh just this past year, right? um at the house. Something goes wrong with the electrical. I got to get the whole thing replaced. It was a really expensive tab. The company that came in and did it was like, "Hey, we can finance this for you for 0% interest for 24 months, right?" And I'm like, "Wow, that's free money. Great deal. I'll go ahead and do that." But what I did, so what I did is I took the total cost and I divided it by 24 and now I'm putting that money in my savings account every month. There you go. Oh, so I'm making some interest. That's super smart on that. And then at the end of the 24 months, I'll have all of that money plus the interest that I earned and get it off. So money just I'm just saying, you know, genius credit cards. You can use it in the right way. And I think also me and Cam talking about it is a is a different perspective as well slightly because we are in a younger age of life. I don't have a Oh. Oh, that hurts, man. I don't [laughter] have I don't have a kid or a family that I I I could potentially be having to to make payments up for or use cash that I don't have. It's easier when I'm on my my own dime in my own time. But as I get older, I'm sure that looking into interest and looking into debt will will be more appealing. For sure. That's a that's a great cover, man. That's a great cover. Yeah. [laughter] You're you're starting to move into like listen old man, us kids do it differently and you backed right out. Nice. That's awesome. I'm impressed. Oh, definitely impressed with both of you guys, man. This has been a really cool uh conversation, a good talk. Um, glad to know you guys' heads are firmly on those shoulders when it comes to finances and all that stuff. You guys are doing doing awesome. We do like to end kind of with, like I said, our our no-brainer segment, kind of pop culture references. Um, and I am definitely going to feel like a dinosaur when we start talking [laughter] about pop culture references here. So, um, let's start with you though, Spotify. What's on your playlist? Uh, I got Apple Music. Apple Music. Okay. Which whichever streaming services you like? I mean really I have my playlist but like I got away from so really I just I just listen to who I listen to. So right now I'm listening to someone called NBA Young Boy. Okay. Yeah. Uh Ra. And then I play this right now. Well, let's take it a step further. Game time. What are you putting on? What what get you hyped? One song or or what we talking about? I think we need to hear the one if you had to play one song. There you go. What get you up? What get you ready to play? Uh I listen to like it's like three songs I have to listen to. One is Fenito by T Keith. Um I had Young Boy by NBA Young Boy. And then Junior Nightmares by Me. Nice. I gota listen to those three every every game day. Yeah, that's a good mix. That's what gets you going. All right, I know what I'm listening to on the way to work tomorrow. [laughter] Putting those three on, getting [snorts] getting hyped, getting ready for it. Nice. How about you, man? Songs or artists? Um, I'm a country guy. Yeah, I I like the Riley Green, the Who else is there out there right now? Are you an LS fellow? Uh, I I I I could be. I could be. Um, uh, but you know, in in terms of football and stuff, I like the rap, too. I like someone called, his name's Lil D. I like Lil D a lot. Um, uh, Rio's good. Young Boy's good. Um, who else? Uzi is on my playlist a lot right now. Lil Uzi. Nice. Um, does your mom know about this? I She She would um be surprised by the music I [laughter] think. For sure. I think she definitely would be. Yeah. Oh, that's funny. That's That's good, though. Yeah. She doesn't need to know everything. No one knows what's going on in between the ears with the headphones on on game day, right? There you go. She won't listen to this. She She won't watch this one. Yeah, I'm sure she's not tracking this. Oh, she absolutely will be watching this as soon as it comes out. Yeah. Oh, she will. Absolutely. Um, what about uh you guys do streaming services? What how is your TV looking? Do you streaming services? Are you like uh movies? You cable shows? I'm that type of guy like Netflix, Disney, Hulu, Peacock. Yeah, you got them all. HBO Man. I got all of it. Yeah. Nice. So, what's what's your kind of go-to? Like game's over, you got to recover. You got to unwind. You're just going to chill on the couch and watch something. What's What's that go-to? You're gonna say Virgin River, aren't you? I know you're gonna say that. [laughter] I was going to say like my favorite movie like my my top five favorite movies all time is Cars. Cars. Cars. Yeah. Nice. You ever you ever uh have you ever watched a movie called Friday? Uh yeah. Oh yeah. My go-to shows Stranger Things. Yeah. Uh Bo Money Heist. Money Heist. Okay. Or if I don't like if I don't feel like watching the internet, I just watch my YouTube watch. Yeah. Yeah. Just flip around. So you like the suspense stuff? The action stuff? Yeah. Actually, I love action movies. Yeah. Nice. Nice. Should I ask Grayson over here? This is because I'm interested. What movies? Yeah. Yeah. What's your What's your uh what's on your streaming or what's your go-to? I feel like I'm like Netflix Prime. I feel like the same as everybody probably has. Same few, Hulu, whatever. I'm more of like a short series type of guy though. Like I like a I like like a seven, eight episode type deal. Um something you can binge quick. Yeah. Quick. Like an hour each and then it's like cuz the whole Game of Thrones, you know, the whole I I I lose I lose interest. Yeah. So either a movie or like a short series is kind of what I'm into. Yeah. Don't like the long drawn out stuff. Don't like the long drawn out stuff. You know, I get lost in the sauce and lose interest. So, can I ask if you've ever watched Ted Lasso? You guys You haven't watched Ted Lasso? I haven't got into that. The soccer coach deal. Yeah. Jason Sedakas. I haven't. I haven't. Oh, man. Yeah. He's supposed to be a football coach that goes over to England and and coaches soccer. I've heard it's pretty funny. It's hilarious. It's really good. I've just watched Tires the new season. Have you Have you watched Tires? Shane McGillis. He's so much. Yeah. But, um, you know, now that I think about this out loud, we probably get got to edit this entire like last 15 minutes. probably the last at least the last 10 minutes if [laughter] No, I'm just kidding. We have a disclaimer on the podcast that says this is just the opinions of of of guests, not of that Q. Yeah, I'm I'm getting the I'm getting the shut it down. Shut it down over here. [laughter] Oh, that's hilarious. Well, guys, um don't want to take too much more of your time. I know you guys are busy guys. You got to get out to the field, all that fun stuff.
